My friend made a bag from newspaper. It was not an envelope-style bag: it had handles. I was so impressesd that an ordinary newspaper which is destined to go in the recycling bin could have another life before its final destination.
I stuck stickers on a sheet of parchment paper and cut them out. Very fine thread was threaded through tiny hole top of each baubles for hanging. This is really easy, simple and quick-and yet, I am pretty sure the result looks gorgeous.
By the way, a cicada here is just a baby compared to those in Tokyo - about as small as the top of your thumb, and its volume is as low as crickets on a Japaese autumn evening. Really loud endless singing reminds me of the boiling hot summer in Tokyo. Modest singing perhaps calls a mild summer with clear blue skies and wild reptiles on the driveway!
Our doll making goup is well supported by local communities. We were kindly offered a bag of gray and white felt with an elphant pattern in it.
Carefully checking the contets of the bag, we found a half-made elepahnt and a set of instructions which seemed to have been printed a long time ago. The Elephant body had not been sewn up, and the ears, tusks and some parts of the body were missing. The instructions were typed up on the sort of classic old-style typewriter which we could only find at an antique shop nowadays.
To our surprise, the sheets of paper had a letterhead - the name of a ship. We believed it to be a naval vessel. We spent quite a lot of time wondering; Why did the navy have an elephant toy pattern? Did they make stuffed toys? Did they once cocnduct "The Elephant Operation"? Full of endless speculations, I decided to take on finishing the elephant.
After a little googling we knew that we had a misconception about the vessel. It was NOT the navy, was A LINER!! But still I have full of imagination.
I have joined the doll-making group which sends handmade dolls and cuddly toys to Africancountries. Here are my zebras version 2. (version 1 ☆） This time, I made their eyes with felt applique stitched on. They perhaps look a little more like sad donkeys than lovely zebras, but perharps not....
I recycled the fabric from a couple of T-shirts which I made for my daughter and her dad five years ago. It was really lovely to see dad and daughter in matching clothes. Now I smiled to see the daughter zebra and daddy zebra.
She's been getting taller and taller lately and will be over 150cm soon. Finally I chose an adult sized pattern. I used a Kwik Sew 3632 Misses' Tops & Tunic to make a tunic-style dress, size XS, but still needed to take it in a bit. Well, not just a bit- A LOT!
A big thanks must go to a friend of mine, a professional patterner and my super sewing master! With her help the neckline and shoulderline were redrawn in accordance with carefull and quick measurements. Her kind assistance was much appreciated.
